Many of you probably received the note from RVW National about the loss of our friend Ellen Stammer. I am sending this note out in addition to that note because we have some people on our email list who, for one reason or another, aren't National members (yet). Ellen was a retired Navy Captain who served during the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War and will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery. An article will be in an upcoming issue of the RVW Magazine, but this more personal note came from Dixie Crownover:
"Audrey Palyo called me this morning around 9:30 and said that Ellen passed, peacefully, around 9 a.m. She was in Hospice Care. Ellen was such a fighter and was planning RV trips up until her passing. "The Captain" will be missed truly by all who knew her and loved her enthusiasm with life and learning, and for her great courage during these past few months. Funeral/Memorial plans are pending and she will eventually be buried in Arlington National Cemetery. As most of you know, Ellen was very active in RVing Women, where she held various national offices, including Board Secretary and National President. I am sure that Audrey is exhausted at this point as she kept close vigil both day and night by Ellen's side. Ellen suffered the past few years from COPD/Emphysema and developed lung cancer about a year or so ago. Ellen was a true intellectual and gourmet and always appreciated a great book and a great meal. She was a contributor to many charities and she and Audrey adopted another small dog from the GA Mountain Humane Society Shelter just last year."
